Bullying is a problem in the workplace, too
Much has been written and discussed about bullying in our school systems, as well it should be. I would like to touch on an issue equally disturbing. This issue is bullying in the workplace.
I am recently retired, but in my career of 33 years with one company, bullying is a way of work life. I have seen many instances of managers and supervisors personally berating their employees. A large percentage of times included non-work issues.
Work issues are dealt with in a “my way or the highway” mentality. Good ideas by experienced workers with a backbone are discouraged. Under-achievers and “yes men” flourish, while good, hard-working employees face the threat of termination.
In conclusion, if your company morale is low, look to your bad management and bad leadership.
