When the temperature rises and the layers come off, the bracelets come out. Bracelets always are a popular accessory in summer. Especially this summer.
“So many people are wearing bracelets now. People call it ‘charmed arm,’ ” said Lauren Topliffe, who works at Eastern Hills Mall in Clarence.
Bracelets simply make sense in warm weather, some women say.
“I always wear bracelets, especially in the summer. I usually have on shorter sleeves; I’m not wearing sweaters so my wrists aren’t covered up,” said Topliffe who, on one recent day, was photographed wearing on one arm her multiple Alex and Ani “positive energy” bracelets and a big watch.
Indeed, bracelets paired with a bold watch or even a ponytail holder adorn wrists all over town. And they’re easy enough to pile next to a keyboard when typing needs to be done or pop into a purse if they prove to be too hot in the humidity or jingly at the staff meeting.
While some opt for the look of an “arm party” – a term popularized by the Man Repeller fashion blogger Leandra Medine to describe adorning the arms with numerous bracelets – others stick with a single statement cuff or bangle.
Local women have their favorites. Kala Tiwari, who runs a business specializing in eyebrow threading and henna tattoos, said her favorite bracelet is a large bangle from her native Nepal. Shemeal Malcolm was photographed wearing blue beaded bracelets that can accessorize anything from jeans to dresses.
And Alyssa Palmeri, a fashion merchandising management student, favors a bracelet that spells out “love.” She, too, wears it with other bracelets from her collection.
“I wear at least four at a time,” she said.
