OLAF FUB SEZ: Advice to writers from professor and author William Strunk Jr., born on this date in 1869: “A sentence should contain no unnecessary words, a paragraph no unnecessary sentences, for the same reason that a drawing should have no unnecessary lines and a machine no unnecessary parts.”

July

Summer breezes are like a fan

That gently caress our golden tan

As we lounge and sip a cooling drink,

Watching children skate around the rink.

Picnics, horseshoes and games in the park,

Grilling hots and burgers till dark.

Lazy, carefree days of summer sun,

When all we crave is lots of fun.

The time will quickly fade away

As we wish somehow we could delay

The coming of the crisp, cool days of fall

And then winter will make its yearly call.
