The Lutheran Service Society of New York offers a series of educational seminars for families caring for a relative with a developmental disability from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in the society’s offices at 6680 Main St., Amherst. Western New York Developmental Disabilities Services Office, funded by a family support grant, offers a recreational respite at Aspire of Western New York in its Cheektowaga locations from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. every other Saturday. Community Services for Developmentally Disabled offers short-term residential options for individuals with developmental disabilities: emergency residence for temporary housing; site-based respite, an overnight capacity for individuals over age 18; transitional residence, a supervised group-style setting for the homeless; and Safe House, the only shelter in New York State specifically designed for individuals with developmental disabilities who are victims of domestic violence, crimes or abuse.
