Amherst

The Amherst Town Board will hold its regular meeting at 7 p.m. Monday in the council chambers of the Amherst Municipal Building, 5583 Main St., Williamsville. The meeting will be preceded by a work session at 3 p.m.

The board will discuss a zoning change for a proposed retail space and condomimiums across from Williamsville South High School. Several residents spoke out against the plan at a recent board meeting.

• The Village of Williamsville Board of Trustees will hold its annual reorganization meeting at 6 p.m. Monday in the work room of Village Hall, 5565 Main St. A 7:30 p.m. regular meeting will not be held.

• State lawmakers have designated a portion of Interstate 990 as the Staff Sergeant William R. Wilson III Memorial Highway, State Senator Michael H. Ranzenhofer and Assemblyman Raymond Walter, both Republicans of Amherst, announced.

Wilson, a Getzville native, was killed in action in Afghanistan last year while training Afghan soldiers and police to take over the country’s security.

• Amherst Central High School student Nora Ramsey last week traveled to Washington, D.C., where she attended a ribbon cutting for the Congressional Art Competition at the invitation of Congressman Brian Higgins, D-Buffalo.

Ramsey’s photograph titled “Strength – The Tie That Binds” will hang in the halls to the U.S. Capitol along with other artwork from across the country.
