NIAGARA FALLS – A fall groundbreaking is anticipated for the final phase of the city’s new train station near the Whirlpool Bridge.
The city has received federal approval to seek bids on the final phase of its International Railway Station and Intermodal Transportation Center, including actual construction of the station building, site work, the passenger platform, final track alignment and streetscape work.
Public advertising for the bids should begin in about a week, said Thomas J. DeSantis, the city’s senior planner, in an email. Once bids are received, the City Council must award a contract before work can begin.
The budget for this phase of construction is $25.6 million, with the bulk of the funding – about $22.4 million – coming from the federal and state governments. The city’s share will be about $3.2 million.
