Military veterans living in Buffalo’s Fruit Belt neighborhood and in need of home repairs will get that help during July and August through a special project sponsored by several local organizations.
“We will be working with various coalitions throughout the Fruit Belt to identify veterans who need help,” said Breona Jones, a Summer VISTA Program member coordinating the effort.
The program also involves the Service Collaborative of WNY and the Buffalo Federation of Neighborhood Centers.
The project is based at the “Neighborhood House” at 97 Lemon St., where Jones can be reached by calling 856-0363.
Volunteers who want to be part of one- and two-day home repair projects such as painting, flooring and plumbing are also being sought and should contact Jones, who can also be reached at firstname.lastname@example.org.
“We will also be reaching out to retailers asking for their support and for donations to complete these projects,” Jones said.
“But our first steps are to identify veteran and military families who need help and put together a volunteer labor force to do the work,” Jones added.
