The commute home tonight could be affected by severe thunderstorms that may pass through Western New York, according to AccuWeather.com meteorologists.
Storms capable of producing lightning strikes, moderate hail, damaging wind gusts and flash flooding are likely to develop this afternoon and evening across the Northeast. Downed trees and power outages as well as street flooding and travel delays are possible, according to the report.
A widespread area including Ohio, western and northern Pennsylvania, northern New Jersey, much of New York State, much of New England, southern Ontario and southwestern Quebec could be affected by the quick-developing storms.
In some cases the storms will be small, developing and dissipating rather quickly. In other cases the storms could organize into a squall line, move along for a few hours and cover a hundred miles, meteorologists said.
