JAMESTOWN – You won’t need a license to catch a fish Saturday and Sunday.

New York State has declared a free fishing weekend, Assemblyman Andy Goodell, R-Chautauqua, reports. Anglers of all ages can fish without restriction in any of the state’s fresh water lakes, rivers and streams.

“Chautauqua County’s waters are home to an outstanding variety of fish, from large and smallmouth bass to trout, musky and steelhead,” Goodell says. “Free fishing weekend is a chance for people to get out and enjoy our natural resources and get involved in the sport of fishing.”

Free fishing weekend has been held yearly since 1991. For more information on fishing in New York State, visit
