Saving music program should be high priority
I was shocked to read on the front page of The News that city school music is being cut drastically. I recently turned 75. I grew up in a middle-class family in the city and went to School 68 and Kensington High School. I learned to play the flute starting in fourth grade and played in the band, orchestra and marching band at Kensington. I didn’t become great, but it changed my life and gave me a great appreciation for music. To deny our kids in the city this opportunity is a crime and I think the School Board ought to be ashamed. I don’t have an easy answer, but I’d be glad to contribute, as I think would many others. What do we value in our society?
