The opening action of the War of 1812, the British capture of the American schooner Commencement off Buffalo Creek in June 1812, will be re-enacted by members and vessels of the Buffalo Maritime Center at 10 a.m. Saturday.

The center’s 1880 Erie Boat Scajaquada, representing the Commencement, will sail out opposite the Erie Basin Marina. The center’s 25-foot replica War of 1812 bateaux, Black Rock and Buffaloe, will represent the British gunboats and will fire on the Commencement, then board it, haul down the Stars and Stripes and raise the Union Jack.
