OLEAN – A dozen residents of Olean’s Homer Hill neighborhood raised concerns during a forum Tuesday night on a new site for a park at Hohnson and Homer streets that was closed recently.

The playground was closed and equipment removed June 7, after city officials learned the site had been sold by the Cattaraugus County Industrial Development Agency. The city had been leasing the space for several years. The site was purchased by a local business for expansion purposes.

The neighborhood, part of Ward 7, which is represented by Tom Morgan, has possible locations for the park, and those sites need to be explored, according to Mayor Linda Witte.

Director of Public Works Tom Windus has been tasked to search for a new site, which would be north of the Southern Tier Expressway.

Most of the city is south of I-86, Homer Hill being the exception.

Another meeting is planned for 5:30 p.m. July 2 in the Olean Municipal Building, 101 East St..
