Playing without stars Abby Wambach, Carli Lloyd and Samantha Kerr didn’t slow the Western New York Flash one bit Saturday night. The Flash (5-2-2) got first half goals from Veronica Perez and Vickie DiMartino and stretched their unbeaten streak to six games with a 2-0 victory over the Washington Spirit (1-5-3) at the Maryland SoccerPlex in Boyds, Md.

Wambach and Lloyd were called to the U.S. national team for a game Saturday and Kerr was recalled to play for her native Australia.

Nevertheless, the Flash got a goal from Perez in the 10th minute and DiMartino tallied her first for the Flash on a header in the 31st minute with an assist from Alex Sahlen, her first of the season.

It was the second consecutive shutout for Flash goalkeeper Adrianna Franch

The Flash moved back into third place in the National Women’s Soccer League standings with 17 points. Next game for WNY is at Chicago on Wednesday. The Flash will play its next home game next Sunday at Sahlen’s Stadium in Rochester.
