Erie County and Veterans Affairs Heathcare Systems on Tuesday launched a five-week program aimed at introducing the sport of golf to disabled military veterans.

The PGA H.O.P.E. program, which stands for “Helping Our Patriots Everywhere,” is aimed at assisting disabled veterans in their rehabilitation and enhancing their mental, social and emotional well-being, County Executive Mark C. Poloncarz explained during a news conference Tuesday to kick off the event at the Grover Cleveland Golf Course clubhouse, 3781 Main St., Amherst.
