Dr. James G. Corasanti has received privileges to practice medicine at Kaleida Health facilities, the hospital system announced Wednesday.

Corasanti, 57, of Getzville, was released in April from the Erie County Correctional Facility in Alden after serving two-thirds of his one-year jail sentence. He was acquitted on all felony charges in the 2011 traffic death of a longboard skater in Amherst but was found guilty of drunken driving.

Corasanti applied for privileges, a request that was reviewed by the Kaleida Health medical/dental staff’s credentials committee, medical executive committee and, finally, the Kaleida Health board of directors, according to Michael P. Hughes, Kaleida Health’s spokesman.

Hughes said that Kaleida Health did not hire the doctor but that granting privileges allows Corasanti to see patients in the organization’s facilities, which include Buffalo General.
