Nov. 16, 1934 – June 10, 2013

John P. Weick, a Korean War veteran and letter carrier, died Monday in Sisters Hospital after a long illness. He was 78.

Born in Buffalo, Mr. Weick graduated from Kensington High School.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1962 during the Korean War and was stationed in Colorado before becoming a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service.

He worked out of the Hiler post office on Highland Parkway in the Town of Tonawanda for more than 40 years.

Mr. Weick was a founder in the 1970s of the EA Softball League for youth, which played games at Thomas Edison Elementary School in the Town of Tonawanda. He was also active in St. Peter’s Episcopal Church. He sang with the Suburban Serenaders community choir and at many weddings. He was also an avid golfer and bowler.

Survivors include three sons, Wayne, Brian and Kevin; a daughter, Julie Baumgartner; and a sister, Betty Carleton.

Services will be held at noon Saturday in Dengler, Roberts, Perna Funeral Home, 3000 Delaware Ave., Kenmore.
