The hotel arm of Benderson Development Co. on Tuesday formally opened its newest establishment, the 120-suite TownePlace Suites by Marriott near the Buffalo Niagara International Airport.

Located at 4265 Genesee St., TownePlace Suites Buffalo Airport will be operated as a franchise by Buffalo Lodging Associates LLC, a division of Benderson. It joins an already-crowded field of hotels and motels on Genesee Street directly across from the airport, as well as nearby.

It’s also Bethesda, Md.-based Marriott International’s first LEED-certified, environmentally friendly property in the Buffalo area, having earned the certification for reducing waste and conserving energy and water.

Launched in 1997, with more than 200 locations in the United States and Canada, TownePlace is Marriott’s all-suite, extended-stay hotel brand, offering moderate prices for longer visits. The hotel offers studio, one-bedroom and two-bedroom suites with full kitchens and separate living and working spaces.

“We are pleased to introduce the TownePlace Suites brand to the Buffalo area,” said Loren Nalewanski, vice president and global brand manager for TownePlace, in a news release announcing the hotel’s opening. “Providing an upscale residential atmosphere, this TownePlace Suites hotel offers an appealing alternative to more standard hotel rooms designed for shorter stays.”

The pet-friendly hotel features an indoor swimming pool, a 24-hour exercise room, complimentary wireless Internet access throughout the hotel, on-site business service, a free continental breakfast each morning in the lobby, a 24-hour “On Us” coffee service and a 24-hour “In a Pinch” market. The chain’s trademark floor-to-ceiling “TowneMap” shows guests where to find restaurants, nightly entertainment, recreation spots, shopping and services such as dry cleaning or car washing.

Founded in 1996, Buffalo Lodging owns and operates more than 40 hotels in the United States and Canada under the Hilton Hotels, Marriott, Choice Hotels, Carlson Hotels and InterContinental hotel franchises. It has 12 hotels in Western New York, five in Massachusetts, two in Rhode Island, five in Connecticut, two in New Jersey, five in Ohio, one in Missouri, nine in Florida and one in Niagara Falls, Ont.
