Deputies with the Erie County sheriff’s Marine Unit have arrested a 32-year-old man for boating while intoxicated after he was stopped for going too fast near Gallagher Beach on Sunday night.
The deputies spotted a personal watercraft going faster than the permitted 5 mph within 100 feet of shore at about 9:30 p.m. Sunday. After they detected a strong alcoholic odor and conducted field-sobriety tests, the deputies charged Ian Piercy with BWI. He refused to submit to a chemical breath test, according to police reports.
Piercy also was charged with operating a personal watercraft after sunset and operating at more than 5 mph near shore, authorities said.
