A 55-year-old Snyder man was ordered Monday by Chief U.S. District Court Judge Williams M. Skretny to make complete restitution of $75,568.74 to the Internal Revenue Service in a tax fraud investigation.

John J. Barden III was spared a prison term and sentenced to time-served but with three months of home detention and then two years of supervised release.

U.S. Attorney William J. Hochul, Jr. said Barden was convicted of failing to pay employment taxes and falsely classifying the wages of workers at his Double Down Transport Inc. He was accused of the tax fraud for the years 2005 through 2009 during which he falsely claimed employee-wages were really payments for per diem work, fuel advances and reimbursements for tolls, permits, repairs and maintenance.
