Abby Wambach and Samantha Kerr each recorded a goal and an assist as the Western New York Flash extended their points streak to five games with a 3-0 triumph at Sky Blue FC in Piscataway, N.J., on Saturday night. First-place Sky Blue fell to 7-2-1 in NWSL, with both losses to the Flash.
Kerr scored in the fourth minute what proved to be the game-winner for the Flash (4-2-2), who now stand in third place. Forty-one minutes later, Carli Lloyd scored her first as a member of the Flash. Wambach closed out the scoring in the 82nd minute. The goal was Wambach’s sixth of the season, putting her in a tie for the league league with Portland’s Alex Morgan, the former Flash star who is also Wambach’s and Lloyd’s teammate on the U.S. National Team. Adrianna Franch made six saves for the shutout.
The Flash return to action at 7 p.m. Saturday at Washington.
