Gerrymandering defeats election reform efforts
Just let me point out that the proposed election law reform to allow public financing of elections will be meaningless without removing redistricting of electoral districts from the control of the Legislature. The only thing that will prevent the ever-more-extreme gerrymandering of electoral districts into “safe” seats is the creation of a citizen redistricting board, made up of non-politicians, non-former-officials and non-former-political appointees. But how to find these citizens? That will be a challenge, but well worth figuring out.
