ALBION – About 400 employees of JP Morgan Chase’s mortgage call center in this Orleans County village will be looking for work following an announcement Thursday from the multi-national bank giant that it plans to shutter the facility as part of an overall downsizing of its work force.
Anxiety over this very move has swirled for at least five years after JP Morgan Chase acquired bankrupt Washington Mutual, which formerly occupied the Albion site, in the fall of 2008. After several rounds of arm-twisting by politicians, JP Morgan Chase’s Albion call center remained open – until Thursday’s announcement.
It’s believed the Orleans County call center will close by September, according to a report by WROC-TV in Rochester.
Rep. Chris Collins, R-Clarence, said his office has been in contact with JP Morgan Chase and will be urging executives to reconsider their decision.
