What a way to kick off the Thursday at Canalside summer concert series.

An indie-rock band given to treating its concerts like jet-fueled bacchanals, whose fans include Bruce Springsteen and every person who ever attended the late, lamented Mohawk Place, the Hold Steady is most likely an unknown quantity to many of the folks attending the Thursday concert series. That’s OK. Odds are, these folks will find themselves falling in love with the band halfway through tonight’s set. The energy, the passion, the loose-but-tight, scruffy approach, the majestic refrains – these are the tools in the Hold Steady’s kit.

Hollerado and Buffalo’s Johnny Nobody open the show. Canalside kicks off with a celebration of indie rock! Nice!

Show time is 5 p.m. sharp, and admission is free.

Mark your calendar for next Thursday’s show: Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros with guests St. Lucia and the Room. For info: buffaloplace.com.
