A young Amherst man had the scare of his life early Sunday on Franklin Street near Chippewa Street.

According to Buffalo police, the victim, who is in his 20s, and another person were approached at about 2:20 a.m. by an assailant who pointed a gun at the Amherst man’s face.

When the victim refused to hand over any money, the assailant repeatedly pulled the trigger. Police said the gun was apparently loaded with blanks.

The suspect then whacked the victim in the face with the gun before leaving. He was described only as a white male who appeared to be in his 50s. The gun was left at the scene and police are examining it for possible fingerprints.
