ROYALTON – A pickup hauling a trailer containing a cow and several calves overturned just before 1 p.m. today on Akron and Block Church roads. No injuries were reported to either the driver or the livestock.

Amber Horn, 20, of Royalton, the driver in the one-vehicle crash, was not charged, according to Chief Deputy Steven Preisch.

He said Horn came around the corner of Akron Road at about 12:40 p.m. and went off the shoulder, causing the trailer to tip onto one side.

“All the livestock were fine and a couple of farmers, who lived right there, came and helped her out,” Preisch said.

He said it is unclear what caused her to go off the road and suggested inexperience with a trailer or speed could have been factors.

“It’s hard to say. It could also have been the distribution of weight inside the trailer. All the cows could have shifted to one side or the other and thrown the trailer off a little and caused it to sway,” Preisch said.
