All signs seem to indicate West Seneca’s Alex Lepkowski did not sign with the Buffalo Sabres by the midnight June 1 deadline Saturday night and can re-enter the NHL draft pool, according to various tweets, including one from Kris Baker of

Lepkowski, a 6-foot-4, 210-pound stay-at-home defenseman for the Barrie Colts of the Ontario Hockey League, was selected in the fifth round of the 2011 draft. Lepkowski helped Barrie reach the OHL championship series, where the Colts lost in seven games to London. Lepkowski had nine assists and a plus-10 rating in 60 regular season games and added two goals and four assists in 22 playoff contests.

For his junior career, Lepkowski has eight goals and 27 points with a plus-17 rating in 203 OHL games. The former St. Francis product did not return messages left for him by The News.

NHL teams who draft major junior players have two years to sign them. Those who aren’t signed can re-enter the draft so long as they are 20 or younger at the time they’re drafted.
