Buffalo has a chance to re-create ‘Gate 38’
I read with interest the My View written by Becky Russell, who experienced a flight delay at “Gate 38” and witnessed the arrival of an Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. Honor Flight Buffalo, an official hub of the Honor Flight Network, will fly 26 of our local World War II veterans on June 15 to see their World War II Memorial for the first time. This will be our 12th flight.
Since our inception, Honor Flight Buffalo has flown more than 300 World War II veterans to see their memorial free of charge. The entire Buffalo community can also experience the emotion that Russell felt as she participated and witnessed these men and women being honored. The community has an opportunity to duplicate “Gate 38” at approximately 10 p.m. on June 15 at Buffalo Niagara Airport as we arrive home with these heroes, our Greatest Generation.
The youngest of these veterans is 86. Approximately 700 American World War II veterans die every day. If you can read this, thank a teacher. If you can read this in English, thank a World War II veteran before it’s too late. This is your opportunity to duplicate “Gate 38.”
