A 51-year-old Chippewa Street man is being held on second-degree assault and other charges for allegedly beating another man with the victim’s own cane as they argued over money at Main and Court streets about 5 p.m. Tuesday, Buffalo police reported.

Alfred Cox was arrested not far from the alleged assault by Officers Vincent Mancino and Michael Davies. The victim was taken to Erie County Medical Center by ambulance for treatment of head and face injuries.

Cox was also charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance after he was found to have a metal crack pipe containing crack residue.
