Niagara University center Giancarlo Iuorio has signed a one-year contract with VIK Vasteras of the second-highest professional hockey league in Sweden.
“It is a great opportunity in a very good league. I am glad he parlayed a storied career into this opportunity,” Niagara coach Dave Burkholder said.
Iuorio, from Richmond Hill, Ont., ranked eighth in the nation with 21 goals and added 13 assists for 34 points. He was a first team All-Atlantic Hockey Association selection. For his career he had 45 goals, 57 assists for 102 points, the 13th player in Niagara history to reach the century mark.
He is the third player from the 2012-13 Niagara team to sign a pro contract this year joining defenseman Jason Beattie (Rochester Americans) and goalie Carsen Chubak (Adirondack Phantoms), who signed with American Hockey League teams.
