Ryan Ciminelli of Cheektowaga and John Szczerbinski of North Tonawanda advanced to match play of the Lucas Oil PBA Bear Open in Wauwatosa, Wis., Monday. The tournament is part of the PBA’s Summer Swing this week in the Milwaukee area.
Ciminelli (2,117 pins) was 14th after 10 games of qualifying on Monday while Szczerbinski (2,109) was 15th. The Bear qualifying also partially determined the field of 28 bowlers for the PBA Milwaukee Open which will begin Wednesday. Ciminelli is fourth in the Milwaukee Open qualifying. Szczerbinski missed the cut.
Ciminelli already has earned $1,600 this week for finishing eighth in the PBA Wolf Open in Milwaukee. He had an 11-4-1 match-play record and 6,319 total including bonus pins for 26 games.
Stepladder finals of the four Summer Swing tournaments will be bowled this weekend and taped for later showing on ESPN.
