WARSAW – A 31-year-old Batavia man who is under investigation by federal immigration officials was being held in the Wyoming County Jail following his arrest for speeding, driving with a suspended license and other offenses in the Town of Covington at 1:58 a.m. Thursday. Manuel De La Cruz-Diaz, of Oak Orchard Road, was arrested after he sped off from a traffic stop on State Route 246 in Covington.

Wyoming County sheriff’s deputies found De La Cruz-Diaz, who was arrested for speeding, was driving with a suspended license because of earlier traffic problems, and he had no auto insurance. Charged with speeding, aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, unlicensed operator offense and operating without insurance, he was remanded to the jail in lieu of $2,000 cash or $5,000 bail bond at a Covington Town Court arraignment.

Facing further proceedings in Covington Town Court July 29, De La Cruz-Diaz is also being investigated by the Buffalo office of the U.S. Immigration Services, sheriff’s deputies reported.
