Local organizations that provide services to returning war veterans will receive a boost that will aid them in their mission to help veterans, thanks to a $50,000 grant from the Wounded War Project.

The national nonprofit group, which was organized to honor and empower veterans, has awarded the grant to the Veterans One-stop Center of WNY, which officially opened April 29. The grant will help fund a collaboration of existing service providers in the region to more effectively meet the needs of current and returning veterans across the eight counties of Western New York.

The objectives of the program are to reduce unemployment, address housing concerns, provide better access to health care and to facilitate access to higher education for returning veterans in order to foster a healthy readjustment to civilian life.
