The local team of Matt Stasiak and Jonathan Clark went low Monday to win the New York State Golf Association’s Men’s Four-Ball Championship at Leatherstocking Golf Course in Otesaga.

Stasiak (Fox Valley) and Clark (Crag Burn) carded a 9-under 63 for a two-round total of 128, seven shots better than the father-son team of Michael A. and Michael C. Carrig. The younger Carrig won the Buffalo District Golf Association Match Play Invitational on Saturday at Niagara Falls Country Club, defeating Stasiak in the semifinals on his way to the title.

Western New York teams dominated the championship, with the Crag Burn team of Billy Hanes and Raman Luthra finishing third.

The four-ball format is a match pitting two teams of two players (four balls) against each other, using better-ball scoring. All four players play their own ball on each hole and the low score between the two partners on each team is recorded.

After making just two birdies on the front, Clark holed a 60-yard wedge shot on the par-5 11th hole for an eagle, then Stasiak took over, recording five birdies on the final six holes.
