Four legislative leaders will hold a crossbow legislation meeting in Room 124 of the State Capitol in Albany, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday.

Crossbow use ceased as a hunting implement on Jan. 1, 2013 and legislators are now considering a renewal of crossbow hunting, with attention to efforts made in nearby states that have resulted in crossbow hunting during archery as well as firearms big-game hunting seasons.

Senators Patrick M. Gallivan and David J. Valesky and Assemblymen Sean Ryan and Aileen M. Gunther will conduct a hearing on issues and options and, time permitting, the floor will be open to the public for comments.

Boat checks

Swiftwater Sail and Power Squadron celebrates Safe Boating Week with free vessel checks at sites along the Niagara River this week. Inspection personnel will be at River Oaks Marina, 3001 River Road on Grand Island, today. The staff goes to Smith Boys Marina, 280 Michigan St. in North Tonawanda, Monday and Tuesday and then to Rich Marine at 4 Austin St. Wednesday and Thursday.

License drawing set

The Erie County Federation of Sportsmen’s Clubs will draw winners of three prizes in a drawing to sponsor the 2013 Youth Lifetime Sports License Program.

Winners will be announced during the organization’s monthly meeting on Thursday. Winners need not be present to win. Last year the program presented lifetime licenses to seven recipients. This year, the goal is to make 10 presentations during the federation’s annual banquet. To contribute or to learn how to enter a youth for the drawing, call 440-6995 or 440-8812.

Rights rally in June

New York SCOPE and the Erie County Federation of Sportsmen’s Clubs are sponsoring a March on Albany on June 11.

Busses will depart from Eastern Hills Mall at 4:30 a.m. and return that day at about 8:30 p.m.
