The Niagara County Community College baseball team beat Erie CC, 5-1, on Sunday to win the Region III title in Little Falls and earn its second straight berth into the NJCAA Division III World Series.
Matthew Klingersmith (Sweet Home) struck out nine and walked just one while improving to 4-1. Reliever George Weber struck out three to get the save.
NCCC used a single, a walk and double – all with two outs – to score twice in the eighth and push its lead to 5-1.
The Timberwolves (37-16) will travel to Tyler, Texas, where they will play Montgomery Germantown CC (Md.) at 9 a.m. Saturday. Last year NCCC finished as national runners-up.
NCCC went 3-0 in the regional tournament beating Erie in the opener, 8-3, Herkimer, 10-5, and the Kats again.
“We find a way to win with this team,” said coach Matthew Klingersmith. “One day it’s with the glove or the bat or with our pitching.”
Tyler Hoffhines (Lancaster) led the Kats (39-20) with two hits.
