The Buffalo News invited school board candidates to provide a statement about why they are running for office.

I am currently seeking a position on the Cheektowaga Central School District School Board to contribute my time, talents and passion to the students, teachers, and community of Cheektowaga. The most important reason is to help our students achieve educational excellence.

I have had continuous involvement with our school district since my children have attained school age. The positive influence that I have seen the PTA make for our children has shown me that if your heart is in the right place, a few people can make a big difference, and this is what has encouraged me to pursue a seat on the school board.

As most school districts are faced with budget cuts in education, it is imperative that the school board ensure all children’s educational needs are met. My daughter has needed special educational services throughout her school career and I know the importance of the programs she receives to assist her in achieving academic success. I feel there are four important roles of a board member: vision, structure, accountability, and advocacy.

At the heart of it all, members of a district’s board of education must believe, unequivocally, in the value of public education. They must be dedicated to serving and teaching all children. They must believe in the process and understand that their role is to act strategically, in line with the interests of the entire school community. Thank you for your consideration.
