The Buffalo News invited school board candidates to provide a statement about why they are running for office.
I am seeking re-election to finish the work we have started. Throughout my term I have remained fiscally accountable to the taxpayers without negatively impacting programs in the schools. In the past three years, we have cut $3.3 million in salaries. This year we presented a budget with a zero tax increase. While making tough, sometimes unpopular, cost saving decisions, we planned appropriately and are able to implement new programs that will add rigor and relevance to our schools. During my tenure as a Board Member, graduation rates have risen from 63 percent in 2010 to 78 percent this year. Attendance is at an all time high, and discipline issues have declined significantly. As the former Chief of Detectives, my team was always able to get the job done and I would like to continue this legacy as a dedicated member of the Lackawanna Board of Education. I have the experience and a proven track record of independence and leadership to get the job done.
