The Buffalo News invited school board candidates to provide a statement about why they are running for office.
I am alarmed at what I see going on in the Hamburg District and I want to be part of the solution. Ten percent tax increases in the past two years and the District is still heading towards possible insolvency.
Our Board president and superintendent have started a bizarre lawsuit against another board member and a teacher accusing them of recording a secret meeting. This frivolous lawsuit has wasted thousands of taxpayers’ dollars. This has to stop. They should be working together not suing each other.
The current board conducts business in secret. I want to bring back true transparency and fiscal accountability to our Board.
The current board, too busy with infighting, missed a deadline for a federal program that awarded neighboring districts up to $450,000. I will make it a priority to seek new revenue sources for our school. Open up a line of constant communication to our elected officials to obtain new funds for our schools.
I will listen to parents and teacher’s feedback about our schools and especially NYS Testing. I want parents to fully understand their options regarding these State tests.
We have lost 56 valuable teachers in the past year and countless programs for our students due to budgetary constraints. With proper fiscal management we can stop the bleeding and rebuild our school system.
My pledge to the taxpayers, parents, students and teachers of Hamburg is that I will work with fellow board members in a spirit of harmony and cooperation to provide quality education for the youth of our community.
