The Buffalo News invited school board candidates to provide a statement about why they are running for office.

I am running for the Depew Union Free School District Board of Education because I care deeply about our entire community. I would like to see the school continue to serve all the students and community within its borders, assisting in preparing both staff and students to meet the expectations of the future.

As a Trustee, I believe that I would be able to make the tough decisions that will help maintain the financial stability of the district, as well as the quality educational programs for the next generation of Wildcats.

We should be more proactive instead of reactive and eliminate the unnecessary expenses to keep the tax rate at a desirable amount for our proud community. Working together with the public taxpayers will help grow our place we call home in Depew, Cheektowaga and Lancaster. According to the NYS Legislature, “The more open a government is with its citizenry, the greater the understanding and participation of the public in government”, which is what I believe as well.

While I would only be one vote if elected on the 7-member board, I believe that by working as a team, that progress could be made to improve and/or maintain the needed programs to ensure a quality appropriate education for our future leaders, the students of Depew.

With having my children attend Depew schools, living in the school district for over 24 years, volunteering at the school for 20 years and actively attending Board of Education meetings for 15 years; I feel that I could greatly contribute to the community if honored by being elected on May 21, 2013. I would value and appreciate your support with your vote to elect me, Gabrielle Miler, to help make a positive impact. Thank you!
