The Buffalo News invited school board candidates to provide a statement about why they are running for office.
As a parent of six children in the district and a former educator, I am alarmed at the direction our district is going in. The dysfunction on our school board is diverting the attention away from the taxpayers, educators and, most of all, students. The lawsuits and lack of transparency have led to a climate of distrust. Let’s get back to concentrating on programming for our children, providing much needed materials to our classrooms and engaging in meaningful dialogue between teachers, administrators and parents. Once elected I will be an advocate, a listener, and an ambassador for our community. We need a diverse group of people working on the board and as a former special education teacher and a member of Parents for Smarter Schools, I feel I can bring an education perspective to the board that is currently lacking.
