The Buffalo News invited school board candidates to provide a statement about why they are running for office.

I am seeking re-election to the Board because I believe that my background, experience, and knowledge of the district’s operations will allow me to continue to be a thoughtful and knowledgeable leader during this challenging time for public education. I have advocated for transparency, increased communication with the community, data-driven decisions, fiscal responsibility and the maintenance of a comprehensive educational program. I have demonstrated my independence by my willingness to ask difficult questions and take unpopular positions. I am currently on the district team negotiating a new contract with the bargaining unit representing our teachers, and I believe that my legal background and negotiation experience in the district makes me an ideal candidate to ensure that the result is a fair and sustainable contract. I believe that the Board has moved the District in a positive direction despite reductions in state aid, the tax levy cap, increasing unfunded mandates, and rising pension and health care costs by reducing and/or containing the expenditures within the district’s control. I hope that the community agrees that I have served them well in this capacity and will re-elect me to another term on the Board.
