The Buffalo News invited school board candidates to provide a statement about why they are running for office.

My main reason for running is to be an advocate for parents with children in the school district. I believe that if we elect people with a vested interest in the community and in the school, the community will start to trust the district again. I believe to help this district become stabilized finically we need to get all parties involved: parents, the Teachers Union, Administrators, and Board members all need to be part of the solution. We need to make sure our students are being challenged academically and that they also have extracurricular activities to participate in.

One of my main goals is to look at staffing levels and to make sure that are appropriate. We need to make sure that we are focusing our resources on our greatest need. I want to make sure that our elementary students are given the proper attention to ensure they are learning how to read at the appropriate level prior to moving on.

A major focal point for my campaign is assuring that when our graduates leave Lackawanna High School, we have fully prepared them for the next phase of their life. Whether it is planning to attend college, or heading straight into the work force, making sure our students are given the tools they need to succeed will be a top priority. I plan on bringing “Dream it Do it” to the district, it is a manufacturing program which gives students hands on training if they plan to get a job straight out of high school. This program works with the top national manufacturing companies, and will give our students a leg up on the competition. One of my final goals is to restore the polling places that the public has demanded, one per ward is not acceptable.
