The Buffalo News invited school board candidates to provide a statement about why they are running for office.

Hello everybody.

For those that do not know me, my name is Sean Kaczmarek, I was Co-Valedictorian of the JFK Class of 2012 and am currently a Dean’s List student at the University at Buffalo with a major in Economics.

This year, I am running for election to the Board of Education for the Cheektowaga-Sloan School District. Being a recent graduate provides a great and unique perspective for a member of the Board of Education. I know the teachers, students, and recent graduates, and I understand what happens in the district and in school nowadays. With family members still attending school within the district, I care deeply about what happens inside the district and want to work together with all the members of the Cheektowaga-Sloan community, teachers, and board members to come to solutions for any issues the district may face. I believe more communication is essential because if the Board of Education fails to communicate with the people they represent, then what point is there to being a representative of the district? Who better to step up to this task than a resident who has personal experience with the teachers and students in the district?

If anyone has any suggestions or ideas, I will always listen and my door will always be open!

I look forward to hearing from everyone and would greatly appreciate your vote to pass the budget and for the Board of Education on May 21st. Thank you.
