The Buffalo News invited school board candidates to provide a statement about why they are running for office.

I am seeking a seat on the City of Tonawanda school board because I truly believe that there needs to be knowledgeable, sensible and responsible trustees representing this community. My passion for the City of Tonawanda, the children, taxpayers and residents shines through in all my volunteer activities. I truly love this city! I believe I can offer intelligent solutions to the challenges this district will continue to face. My knowledge of this district and my background in business and education makes me the perfect candidate to help move us through this difficult time.

My prior experience on the school board allows me to transition into a seat very quickly and this is a must! Our district has a difficult road ahead, and we need start working immediately on budgetary issues, that we will continue to face. We cannot continue to place the burden of the increasing costs onto the taxpayers of the City of Tonawanda. We have to find a way to work within our means, and still maintain the integrity of our educational priorities.

I believe that my educational background allows me to have first-hand knowledge of what is going on with the new common core standards and the new evaluation system. There is going to be a transition period for every stakeholder, but an informed Board of Education allows for intelligent relevant policy to be passed, staff development to be offered and changes to curriculum and instruction, if and when necessary.

Finally, I am running for the Board of Education because I have too much knowledge about our district to sit back and watch us head down a road of financial and/or educational insolvency. It is time to use my knowledge and experience to protect this district, the students who attend and the taxpayers who live here.
