The Lake Shore Central School District will hold a public hearing Tuesday for its proposed 2013-14 school budget and introduce candidates for the school board election.

The hearing will be at 7 p.m. in the auditorium of the high school, 959 Beach Road.

The $53.28 million budget, which was approved by the Lake Shore School Board in April, is up $535,694, or 1.02 percent, from this year’s spending.

The tax levy – the amount to be raised in taxes – is $16.28 million, which is a 2.34 percent increase. That’s still below the district’s calculated tax cap of 2.37 percent.

Meanwhile, the tax rate in Evans would go up 39 cents per $1,000 of assessed value, to $17.13 from $16.74.

District voters also will get a chance to meet the three candidates running for three open seats on the board of education. All are three year terms.

The candidates are Cynthia Latimore, a board incumbent; William J. Connors Jr., a computer software executive; and Jennifer S. Farrell, an attorney.

Voting will take place from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on May 21 in the lobby of the high school.
