City’s budding artists should be encouraged

With all the negative talk about the Buffalo Public Schools and what is lacking, often overlooked are some of the extraordinary things accomplished by the students. If you have never been to the Downtown Central Library, this might be the time to make that trip and enjoy the wonderful Buffalo Public Schools Art Show: Celebrate Art! 2013. More than 60 multimedia pieces of art, recommended by the art teachers, are being displayed through May 29, all created by students in grades pre-K through 12.

Since I work at the library, I pass this display every day. I often stop to just look at and reflect on the talent and insight that children often have; how important arts are in our schools; and how good, productive, thought-provoking, positive examples of the hard work of teachers and students alike is not always given the recognition it should receive.

These budding artists are the future and reflect well not only on the Buffalo Public Schools, but the City of Buffalo. They deserve to be encouraged and applauded.
