The Lake Shore Central School District was one of 12 districts statewide to receive a competitive grant this year as a reward for finding ways to save money.

In March, Lake Shore was awarded $800,475 over three years for identifying nearly $900,000 in eligible cost savings under Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo’s competitive education grants for management efficiency.

The district was able to save money by consolidating and reducing central office administrative responsibilities and positions; cut energy costs by installing motion sensors and replacing lighting; and reduce transportation costs by reorganizing bus costs.

The Williamsville and Cheektowaga Central school districts were the other two local districts to receive funding from the grant, but the Lake Shore grant was the largest.
