Hamburg Democrats have chosen attorney Walter Rooth III to run for town supervisor.

Rooth, the son of Town Justice Walter L. Rooth, has been an assistant district attorney and established his own law practice in 2006. He is a volunteer baseball and basketball coach, volunteer with Meals on Wheels and is a former emergency medical technician with the Hamburg Fire Department.

Also winning Democratic endorsements are Cheryl Potter Juda and Michael Quinn for Town Board members and Justice Gerald Gorman for reelection.

Hamburg Republicans are planning to make their endorsements soon, and it is expected that incumbents Supervisor Steven Walters and Councilwoman Amy Ziegler will be endorsed for reelection.

Hamburg Village Board members may be close to a decision on how to change the ordinance governing the storage of boats, trailers and recreational vehicles.

The latest version of the ordinance is on the village website,, under “Legal notices.” It would require a permit for the outside storage of boats, trailers and RVs longer than 24 feet for more than five days.
