A referendum to amend the rules on pensions for firefighters age 65 and over for the Wales Center Volunteer Fire Department has been approved by a vote of 49 to 17. The new rules will allow firefighters age 65 as of April 2013, to continue adding service points toward their pensions until they reach 20 years of service.

The vote was in Wales Town Hall. For each eligible member of the Wales Center Volunteer Fire Department, it will cost property owners $4 for each $100,000 of assessment. Pension eligibility is retroactive to April.
