Michael J. Bohn, one of Batavia’s best-known restaurateurs, died Wednesday in Unity Hospital, Rochester, after a long illness. He was 70.

He was the owner of Bohn’s Restaurant and Lounge. He also opened a Red Barn, the city’s first franchise restaurant, and Gentner’s Hotel, which was destroyed by fire.

For 27 years, he provided contract food service at Genesee Community College.

Mr. Bohn served on the Batavia Board of Education as a member and chairman, and was active in the Batavia Jaycees and Elks Lodge.

Surviving are his wife, Eva L.; three sons, Michael J. Jr., Mark F. and David M.; two daughters, Darlene Naparstek and Kathleen A. Maniace; five brothers, Ronald, Kevin, Roger, James and John; two sisters, Barbara Rogers and Virginia Bohn; and two stepdaughters, Lynn M. Carleton and Jean E. Young.

A funeral Mass will be offered at 10 a.m. Monday in Resurrection Parish, 18 Ellicott St., Batavia.
